I strongly believe that we are all in this together. From a young age, I was taught by my parents to be kind, helpful and charitable. I was also encouraged to use whatever skills I had to benefit others, not just myself.
I realize how fortunate we are to live in Canada. Most Canadians have access to excellent medical care. As a physician, I have been able to provide health care to communities in countries that have limited health care resources. I have worked with Canadian pharmaceutical companies to deliver much needed medicines to these communities. I have learned some basic Swahili and Creole to enhance my patient interactions. To borrow some phrases from Free the Children, I am a “Shameless Idealist” and will continue to “Be the Change”.
