Dr Nield has been selected by La Roche Posay to be their 2017 winner for this incredible grant. The award is given to the most compassionate project spearheaded by a Canadian dermatologist, seeking to enhance patients quality of life.
Dr Nield’s project was “Improving Patients’ Access to Health Care in Haiti by Introducing Small Scale Production of Inexpensive Essential Topical Dermatology Medications “at Hôpital Bon Samaritain in Limbé, Haiti. Dr Nield has been working on this project for 3 years, and every year, continues to see improvement in health care in Haiti. The grant will all be used to further her humanitarian work in Haiti.
Dr Nield has been involved with providing ongoing medical education for the past number of years, even when she is not in Haiti. Dr Nield has been volunteering with an incredible organization called the Haitian Medical Education Project (HMEP)
Dr Nield is a regular lecturer for this amazing organization. Every few months, Dr Nield will give an online lecture via a video conferencing system set up by the HMEP.It takes hours of prep work to put together a powerpoint lecture that will be useful for the doctors in Haiti. She recently gave a talk on Neurofibromatosis, using case studies from patients she has treated while in Haiti.
Dr. Nield recently was in Haiti and had the chance to see the new truck, which she helped raise funds for. The truck is of utmost value to the Hôpital Bon Samaritain, in Limbé, Haiti. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this worthwhile project. Merci Anpil.
Dr Nield was asked to deliver a lecture for the first annual meeting of the Dermatology Association of Ontario. She presented a talk on Therapeutic Cosmetic Pearls. The meeting was held on May 28 at Niagara on the Lake.
Thanks to all of my family, friends, patients and colleagues. My GoFundMe Campaign launched just 4 months ago has successfully raised $35,000.00 CAD, to purchase a truck for Hôpital Bon Samaritain in Limbé, Haiti. I will be returning to Haiti on July 22,2017 to volunteer there for 2 weeks. I am very hopeful that the new truck will have arrived before I do.

This was a great opportunity for Dr Nield to share her experiences with other physicians.
Micro -needling is now available in our office. Dr. Nield has carefully researched this new technology and believes that the Collagen P.I.N is the most advanced and safest, medical grade automated micro -needling device on the market to offer to her patients.
What are the Benefits My Skin Can See From a Collagen P.I.N. Treatment?
Innovative and effective, Collagen P.I.N. activates cellular regeneration to help tighten and lift skin, while minimizing common skin problems such as acne scars, fine lines, photo-aging, dull skin, poor texture, stretch marks and body scars.
Collagen P.I.N. (Percutaneous Induction Needling)is a method of introducing a controlled wound into the skin, triggering a release of natural growth factors, new collagen & elastin. This process causes much less damage to the epidermis than dermal rolling or lasers and other ablative treatments, which helps to protect the new skin cell growth providing for quicker healing, higher success rate and longer lasting results.
WHAT IS AUTOMATED MICRO-NEEDLING?
Automated Micro-Needling (also known as Percutaneous Collagen Induction Therapy or PCIT) is a new innovation in aesthetic medicine for the treatment of fine lines, acne scars and improvement of the skin appearance. During this procedure, tiny needles are used to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin in order to produce collagen and elastin. The skin’s repair process results in a thicker dermis with the appearance of softer wrinkles.
HOW IS COLLAGEN P.I.N. DIFFERENT FROM THE DERMAL NEEDLING ROLLERS OF THE PAST?
Micro-needling rollers are the previous generation of needling devices. One of the many drawbacks of dermal rollers is the fixed needle or penetration depth (i.e. 0.5mm) which is not very conducive when treating an area like the face which requires different depths due to the thickness of skin tissue, which varies in depth tremendously depending on the area being treated. Therefore, having a fixed needle depth or penetration level is a huge drawback when trying to customize a treatment for consistency. Collagen P.I.N. ™ has an adjustable needle depth that allows your skincare provider to adjust penetration depth throughout the entire treatment. This will allow the medical provider to properly address the specific needs of thinner skin on your lower eyelids, crow’s feet, and forehead. Additionally, where the tissue is thicker in other areas like the upper lip, cheeks (due to fat pads), neck and décolletage, the necessary adjustments can easily be treated with 1 needle tip instead of 5 or 6 needle rollers. The other dramatic difference is in the type of injury that occurs using the Collagen P.I.N. versus a Dermal Needling Roller.
HOW IS COLLAGEN P.I.N. DIFFERENT FROM LASERS?
When used correctly resurfacing lasers can be a great tool for treating aging skin. However, lasers use focused light to produce heat to destroy unwanted pigmentation and wrinkles, and vaporizes skin. This is great for targeting dark spots but often leads to complications when treating patients with naturally darker skin. Collagen P.I.N. ™ breaks up pigment mechanically and remodels the collagen without heat or the light. When the heat is removed from the process, it makes for a much safer, more comfortable and more consistent treatment. No heat also equals less downtime! Most Collagen P.I.N. ™ patients have a healthy pink glow immediately after the procedure, which lessens dramatically within 24 hours or less. Most patients are back to work the same day and out to dinner the same evening and experience little to no downtime. For 24 hours after a treatment, your skin may look like a sunburn, and over the next 4-5 days, the redness will diminish and you will experience dry flaky skin that needs to be frequently moisturized.
Usually, treatments are performed once a month, for a total of 3-6 sessions.
All patients will be assessed by Dr Nield and the treatment will be individualized by Dr Nield.
Topical freezing will be applied 1/2 hour prior to each treatment. The procedure usually takes 1/2 hour to treat the entire face.
Antiviral meds will be prescribed if the patient has a history of facial cold sores.
HOW IS THE PROCEDURE DONE?
A sterile needle-tip containing 12 to 36(optional) tiny micro-needles is attached to the Collagen P.I.N. ™. Your skincare professional will apply a thin layer of hyaluronic acid to your skin and select the appropriate treatment depth based on your unique needs. Next, in a single motion, the Collagen P.I.N. will be gently glided across the skin in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered. This results in thousands of microscopic channels throughout the entire treatment area.
I attended an excellent 2 day workshop in Toronto this September. The guest speaker was Dr. Mauricio de Maio, a well respected plastic surgeon from Brazil. He spent 2 days reviewing facial structure, anatomy and proper placement of Hyaluronic Acid fillers into the face to create a more youthful, rejuvenated result. The top cosmetic physicians from Canada were exclusively invited to this unique training seminar.
Dr. de Maio stressed the need to fully assess a patient and suggested that patients be given a plan and a series of treatments to balance results with an acceptable budget. The 8 point lift refers to 8 areas on the face to which filler is injected to produce the most natural results. It is interesting that I have been doing this technique for years. At one point, we called it a SOFTLIFT. This combined Botox and filler to give very natural, youthful results. Too many times, patients can be seen who have been overfilled, in the wrong places and an expert injector like myself must be an artist, as well as a master cosmetic dermatologist!
This cream targets hyperpigmentation due to sun spots, age spots, melasma and old acne marks. Results can be seen within 12 weeks. Dr. Nield has been able to offer useful rejuvenating products to her patients for years Please feel free to contact our office to discover how we can help you.
