This summer, I joined a medical team to do some dermatology training at Baraka Hospital in Narok, Kenya.
I volunteered through “Me to We”, and this project was called “We Medical Trips Dermatology program”.
I was last in Kenya in 2012 and it was wonderful to return to see the ongoing improvements. The clinic has now become a hospital, and WE College has now been established to provide not only a nursing, but soon a medical school.
I worked with the local health care providers in the hospital clinic, helping with diagnosis and treatment of common and some unusual skin diseases.
I was also invited to give lectures in the new We College to the first year nursing class as well as to the current hospital staff. The lecture facilities were incredible and I believe sharing medical knowledge was an important part of this trip.
